angle of repose

The term 'angle of repose' as it applies to the area of reclamation can be defined as ' Angle between the horizontal and the maximum slope that a particular soil or geologic material assumes through natural processes. For dry granular soils, the effect of the height of slope is negligible; for cohesive soils, the effect of height of slope is so great that the angle of repose is meaningless'.

The term 'angle of repose' as it applies to the area of coastlines can be defined as ' the maximum slope (measured from the horizon) at which soils and loose materials on the banks of canals, rivers, or embankments stay stable'.
